1.2 System Requirements
Techsignal™ will run on the Windows 98, 2000, NTSP (3.0 and above), or XP. You will need a minimum of
128 MB of RAM and, for extensive cycle analysis, especially with large data files, we recommend 512 MB of
RAM or more. There must be at least 12 megabytes of free disk space available for installation.
Techsignal™ will operate on any CPU which will run Microsoft Windows 95 or later.  The fastest possible
processor is recommended due to the intense numerical and computational demands of the Techsignal™
program.  It is recommended that screen resolution be at least 1024 X 768 so that the entire screen can be
seen.  Lesser resolutions may create problems in seeing the entire Techsignal™ window and all the icons
on both sides of the screen.
1.3 Getting Started
Get your data
To get started you must first obtain data in any of the three Techsignal™ supported formats (CSI, ASCII and
Metastock).  Make sure the data that you obtain have enough history to do a proper analysis.  We
recommend that you run analyses on no fewer then 250 data points and preferably on about 2000.  Two
thousand data points, for example, are a little less than 8 years of daily data in the financial markets where
there are roughly 250 trading days per year.  As one example for obtaining and setting up a data source,
see the Techsignal™ article entitled “Setting Up a Data Source for Use in Techsignal™.”  This article is
found in your Techsignal™ folder at C:\FSCTS.
Install the Hasp™
Techsignal™ is designed to run on only one computer at a time.  A small device called a Hasp™ (the size of
your thumb or a 1 GB flash drive) must be attached to a USB port of your computer.  The Techsignal™
program will not run without this device attached to your computer.  Once the Hasp™ is attached to your
computer, you can install the Techsignal™ program.
The Techsignal™ program may also be installed and run on any other computer as long as your Hasp™
device is attached to a USB port on that other computer.  If you do not have an available USB port or prefer
to run the Techsignal™ program through a printer port, let us know and we will provide you with the required
device for your printer port.
Most users however will put the Hasp in a USB port.  If all of your USB ports are already in use, you may
consider buying a device called a hub which expands the number of USB ports available to your computer.
If you have no USB port then call and we can supply a hasp for your printer port. Once the Hasp™ is
installed, you are ready to install the Techsignal™ program.
Install the Program
Techsignal™ comes with its own install program.  The install program has an autorun feature, so once you
insert the Techsignal™ CD, the install program should take over and you simply follow the prompts. If for
some reason the install program does not come up once you insert the Techsignal™ CD, then use My
Computer on your desktop to find the Techsignal™ CD in your CD drive, and double-click on the Install
program.
You will have to agree to the Licensing Agreement before the Techsignal™ program will install.  If you have
any problems or questions about the License Agreement, please contact Techsignal™ because you cannot
install the Techsignal™ program without agreeing to this License Agreement.  Most computers will need to
be rebooted before they can run the Techsignal™ program.  A desktop icon should be created once you
have installed the program, making is easy to boot into the program.
Build a Portfolio
Techsignal™ uses a portfolio system in its analysis.   You will begin by creating a portfolio, which is file in
which will be stored your selected symbols for the data you want to analyze.  This file is called a portfolio,
and this portfolio will also be set up to point to the folder where the actual data are housed.
