Data Input Toolbar
The Data Input Toolbar is primarily used to choose the type of data compression. Most data files are daily
or monthly. Only daily data can be compressed. Daily data can be compressed into weekly, monthly,
quarterly and yearly data. Be careful when you choose monthly, quarterly and yearly that you have enough
data to run an analysis. It is best not to try to run an analysis on fewer than 250 data points.
There is also a QUIT icon to exit the program. This is the way the program should be closed. It will properly
shut down all modules and open windows. We have also included an icon on this screen that allows you to
access "Notepad" so that you can edit ASCII files.
1.11 How to Begin an Analysis
On the Main Menu Data Input Screen on the right hand side is frame entitled Type of Analysis. New
Analysis is the default selection for starting a new analysis. You can only analyze on data series or graph at
a time.
New Analysis
Once you have chosen your data to analyze and decided on whether it is to be compressed, or transformed,
or the data is to be interpolated (we recommend accepting the defaults and making no changes until you are
familiar with the program), you can press the Begin New Analysis button on the right side of the Main Menu
Data Input screen, and the Techsignal analysis begins and loads a new graph screen.
Graph Only
The Graph only screen is an option selected from the Main Menu Data Input screen, and is largely for
inspecting data for any indications of bad data, prior to performing an analysis. It is important to have clean
data and we recommend that data are quickly visually inspected before performing any analysis on new
data.
Previous Analysis
If you have saved a previously run analysis from a prior Graph screen, you can reload this study as many
times as you like. Techsignal will graph the cycles you have chosen and saved from your previous
analysis, and will update any additional data that have occurred since the prior analysis along including
automatically updating any technical studies you performed and saved.
Go to the Type of Analysis frame on the Main Menu Data Input screen and change the default Option button
from New Analysis to Previous Analysis. Windows will prompt you for the location of the previous analysis
file. Open the previous file and the Techsignal program will graph the previous analysis with all the
updated studies.
Single Cycle Analysis
The Single Cycle Analysis is an option for analyzing for the existence of any specific cycle, cycle you may
suspect exists or favorite cycle someone suggested, as well as for the persistence, reliability, amplitude and
phase of this cycle, assuming Techsignal finds such a cycle. This option is the final choice in the Type of
Analysis on the Main Menu Data Input screen.
1.12 Help
Help files are interactive and located inside the Techsignal program. They can be accessed through the
F1 key on most screens, through the Help command on the Windows Main Menu Data Input screen, or from
a drop down box on the graph screen by right clicking and selecting help toward the bottom of the box.
